Business & ProductivityBest AI Visibility Tools: AI Search and AI Overviews Trackers Ranked
Also known as: AI GEO tools · AI overview trackers · AI search visibility tools
An AI visibility tool shows whether AI assistants mention and cite your brand. It asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot the questions your buyers ask, then records who gets named, which pages get cited and how you compare with rivals. This work is called AEO (answer engine optimisation) or GEO (generative engine optimisation). It matters because AI answers now sit on top of search: Google says AI Overviews alone reach more than 2.5 billion people a month.
We ranked 11 AI search visibility trackers, from $20 a month self-serve tools to enterprise platforms. We scored each on engine and market coverage, data quality and methodology, actionability, integrations and price per prompt. Prices are US list prices (Peec AI bills in euros) as of 23 September 2026. For the wider SEO toolset, including content optimisers and backlink tools, see our best AI for SEO ranking.
Quick answerProfound is the best AI visibility tool for large brands: nine answer engines, AI agents that act on the data and the most funding in the category, but pricing is custom. Semrush is the best choice if you also need classic SEO, with AI visibility from $99 a month or bundled in Semrush One. Peec AI is the best dedicated tracker for mid-sized teams (about €85 a month for 50 prompts). On a tight budget, SE Visible gives the lowest cost per prompt and Otterly.AI starts at $29.

Expert reviews
Profound is the category leader for big brands. It runs large prompt sets every day across up to nine answer engines, including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, and shows how often you are named, how you are described, which sources the AI cites and where competitors win. Extra modules cover ChatGPT Shopping, AI crawler visits to your site (Agent Analytics) and estimated prompt volumes. Its AI Marketer agents then draft or refresh content to close the gaps.
Money is not a worry for the vendor: Profound raised $180 million at a $1.8 billion valuation in September 2026. The catch is access. Outside the free 7-day trial, which uses a preset prompt list you cannot edit, everything is custom-priced Enterprise, and agents cost extra credits. That puts it out of reach for most small teams.
Pick it if you are an enterprise or large agency that needs broad engine coverage, API exports and tools that act on the data. Skip it if you have a small budget or only need to check a few dozen prompts; Peec AI, SE Visible or Otterly.AI cover that for under $200 a month.
What we like
- Widest engine list among the leaders (9 on Enterprise)
- Agents turn gaps into draft content
- Shopping, crawler and prompt-volume data in one place
- Unlimited seats, API, SSO and SOC 2
Watch out for
- No published price beyond the trial
- Trial prompts are preset and cannot be edited
- Agent use billed in extra credits
Semrush is the easiest pick if you already live in an SEO suite. The AI Visibility Toolkit gives an AI Visibility Score for any brand, competitor gap reports, sentiment and narrative analysis (Brand Performance) and daily Prompt Tracking in ChatGPT and Google AI Mode. Prompt Research works like keyword research for AI, with topic volume, difficulty and intent. Because it sits next to rank tracking, site audits and backlink data, you can see both halves of search in one login.
The standalone toolkit costs $99 a month per domain with only 25 tracked prompts, which is poor value on its own ($3.96 per prompt). The Semrush One bundles are better: 50 to 200 daily prompts plus the full SEO toolkit from $199 a month. Coverage stops at five engines unless you buy the custom Enterprise AIO tier, and extra seats and domains add up fast.
Pick it if you want AI visibility alongside keyword, technical and competitor SEO data. Skip it if you only need AI tracking; dedicated tools track more prompts per dollar. See how it fits the wider suite in our best AI for SEO ranking.
What we like
- AI data sits next to full SEO data
- Prompt Research estimates topic demand
- Tracking in 220+ countries
- Strong reporting and API
Watch out for
- Standalone toolkit only tracks 25 prompts
- Per-domain and per-seat fees add up
- Claude and Copilot need Enterprise AIO
Peec AI does one job well: it runs your prompts every day in the AI models you choose and turns the answers into clear visibility, position, sentiment and source reports. Its source data is a strength. It separates brand mentions from citations and groups cited domains by type (your own site, editorial, reference, user-generated), so you can see whether you need better pages, more press or more forum presence. An Actions page ranks what to do next, and higher tiers add multi-country tracking and Looker Studio reports.
Pricing is fair for a dedicated tool at roughly €1.70 per prompt a month on Starter, and every plan has unlimited users. The limits: self-serve plans track only three models, so full coverage means add-ons or Enterprise, and Peec does not list prices clearly on its own page, so confirm the current rate in the trial.
Pick it if you want a focused, easy AI search tracker for a brand or a handful of clients. Skip it if you need content creation built in (Profound, AthenaHQ) or classic SEO data (Semrush, Ahrefs).
What we like
- Clear split of mentions, citations and source types
- Unlimited users on all plans
- Fair price per prompt
- 7-day trial without a card
Watch out for
- Only 3 models on self-serve plans
- Limited content tools
- Prices hard to find on its site
Brand Radar takes a different approach from most trackers. Instead of only running the prompts you write, Ahrefs turns real search queries from its keyword database into natural questions and runs more than 450 million of them through AI platforms. You can look up any brand, see its share of AI mentions against rivals, and find the pages AI engines cite, without writing a single prompt. For market research and competitor analysis, nothing else here has that breadth.
The weak spots are freshness and cost clarity. The big index is re-tested monthly, not daily, so it shows trends rather than day-to-day moves. Daily tracking of your own prompts comes through check-based packages, which are cheap per check ($50 for 2,500) but take some maths to plan. Full access to every AI index is a paid add-on that reviewers put at up to $699 a month.
Pick it if you already use Ahrefs or want to size up a market and competitors fast. Skip it if you mainly need daily tracking of a fixed prompt list; Peec AI or SE Visible are simpler.
What we like
- Research any brand without writing prompts
- Huge 453M+ prompt index built from real searches
- Very cheap per custom check
- API and MCP access with Ahrefs plans
Watch out for
- Main index refreshes monthly
- Full AI index access is a costly add-on
- Check-based billing is hard to forecast
SE Visible is SE Ranking's standalone AI visibility tracker, and it wins on value. The $99 Basic plan tracks 200 prompts every day across five engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews. That is about $0.50 per prompt a month, a quarter of what most rivals charge, and about 30,000 analysed answers a month. You get brand visibility, competitor share, sentiment and the sources AI engines cite, and you can track several brands or clients in one account.
It is newer and simpler than the leaders. Several features, including query fan-out analysis, local AI visibility and deeper sentiment tracking, were still marked "coming soon" in September 2026. Claude, Copilot and Grok are not tracked, and there is no API listed for the standalone product. Recommendations are basic compared with Profound or Scrunch.
Pick it if you want broad daily tracking on a small budget, or you run an agency with many small clients. Skip it if you need Claude or Copilot data, an API or built-in content workflows.
What we like
- Lowest cost per prompt in this ranking
- Five engines on every plan
- Multiple brands per account
- 10-day free trial
Watch out for
- No Claude, Copilot or Grok
- Several features still in development
- Light on recommendations
Scrunch pairs tracking with fixes. It monitors your prompts by persona and funnel stage, shows citations and query fan-out (the extra searches an AI runs behind the scenes), and audits your site for problems that stop AI crawlers from reading it. Its Agent Experience Platform (AXP), on Enterprise, serves a clean, machine-readable version of your pages to AI bots, which is a real differentiator for sites heavy on scripts.
The Core plan at $250 a month is a reasonable test drive: 125 prompts (about $2 each), five site audits and five users. But Core tracks only four engines in one country, and Gemini, Claude and AI Mode need Enterprise. That makes the self-serve plan narrower than Peec AI or SE Visible at a higher price.
Pick it if your site is complex and you suspect AI crawlers miss your content, or you want persona-level tracking. Skip it if you need wide engine coverage on a mid-market budget.
What we like
- Persona and funnel-stage tracking
- Site audits for AI crawlability
- AXP serves AI-ready pages (Enterprise)
- Query fan-out insight
Watch out for
- Core tracks only 4 engines in 1 country
- Gemini and AI Mode need Enterprise
- Higher entry price than peers
Evertune treats AI visibility as a statistics problem. Because AI answers change from run to run, it asks each question many times per model and reports averages, which gives steadier numbers than a single daily check. With 11 models, global languages and 100,000 tracked prompts on the Pro plan, it is built for brand, media and category-level questions: how do the models see us, which attributes do they link to us, and which sources shape that view?
It is also moving into activation, with 25 AI-optimised articles a month and an AI retargeting product that links to advertising. The trade-offs: the $800 entry price, a demo-led sales process and a model-level approach that leans on API sampling. API answers can differ from what people see in the ChatGPT or Perplexity apps, so check how your plan collects data.
Pick it if you manage a consumer brand and want robust perception data across many models and markets. Skip it if you want a cheap self-serve tracker or tight links to SEO workflows.
What we like
- 11 models and global markets
- Repeated sampling for steadier numbers
- Brand perception and attribute data
- Content and advertising activation
Watch out for
- $800/month entry, demo required
- API-style sampling may differ from app answers
- Fewer SEO integrations
AthenaHQ combines tracking with advice. It shows prompt-level answers, cited sources and competitor gaps, estimates how often people ask AI about a topic, and gives content recommendations, with an AI agent to help act on them. Enterprise coverage is wide at 11 models, including Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral.
The credit model needs care. Starter's 3,600 credits equal 3,600 AI answers a month, so 24 prompts on five engines every day uses it all. That makes the $295 price about $12 per daily-tracked prompt, far above Peec AI or SE Visible, unless you track weekly. API access is an extra add-on, and AI Mode and Claude need Enterprise.
Pick it if you want a guided tool that turns gaps into content ideas and you can live with weekly checks on Starter. Skip it if you need many daily prompts or API access on a mid-size budget.
What we like
- Wide model list on Enterprise (11)
- Content recommendations and agent
- Prompt volume estimates
- Unlimited members
Watch out for
- Credits run out fast on daily tracking
- API is a paid add-on
- AI Mode and Claude need Enterprise
Otterly.AI is the cheapest serious way to start. For $29 a month you track 15 prompts every day in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, see which brands and sources appear, and compare yourself with competitors. Every plan includes unlimited users and 50+ countries, and Standard adds API and MCP access, AI crawler analytics and GEO audits that check whether a page is easy for AI to cite.
The price per prompt is steady at about $1.90 up to Standard, but it climbs once you add engines. Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude are paid add-ons, and Claude can cost up to $439 a month on bigger plans. Analysis is simpler than Peec AI's, and recommendations are light.
Pick it if you want to measure AI search visibility this week without a contract. Skip it if you need all major engines in one price, or you already pay for Semrush One or SE Ranking, which include similar tracking.
What we like
- $29 entry price
- Unlimited users and 50+ countries
- API and MCP from Standard
- GEO page audits
Watch out for
- AI Mode, Gemini and Claude cost extra
- Lite's 15 prompts is a small sample
- Basic recommendations
Rankscale is a flexible, low-cost tracker from Germany. Instead of a fixed prompt count, you buy credits and choose which engines and how often to check each search term, from hourly to monthly. That lets you track many engines, including Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok, on a small budget, and spend more checks on the prompts that matter. It also shows query fan-out, shopping cards and sponsored ads inside ChatGPT, AI Mode and Copilot.
The credit model is flexible but harder to plan, and Rankscale explains less about sampling and variance than the leaders. Reporting and recommendations are simpler, and it is a small company, so check support and data history before you commit an agency's clients.
Pick it if you want broad engine coverage for $20 to $99 a month and like tuning schedules yourself. Skip it if you need guided recommendations, enterprise security or predictable fixed billing.
What we like
- From $20/month
- Very broad engine list
- Hourly to monthly schedules
- Ads and shopping tracking
Watch out for
- Credit billing takes planning
- Thin methodology documentation
- Simpler reporting and advice
Conductor is a long-running enterprise SEO platform that has added AI search tracking. Its AI Search Performance module tracks mentions and citations by persona and intent, ties sentiment to the sources behind it, measures AI referral traffic and conversions, and monitors AI bot crawls. The best part is the workflow: you can jump from a gap straight into Conductor Creator to write or fix content, and push data into BI tools or internal AI agents via API and MCP.
Conductor openly collects data API-first, which it says is more stable and compliant than scraping. The downside is that API answers can differ sharply from what users see in the apps; one 2026 study by Surfer found only 24% brand overlap in ChatGPT between the two methods. Pricing is custom and aimed at large companies.
Pick it if you already use Conductor or need AI visibility wired into enterprise content operations. Skip it if you want interface-level data or a self-serve price.
What we like
- Links AI gaps straight to content workflows
- AI referral traffic and conversion data
- Enterprise security and unlimited users
- Data API and MCP
Watch out for
- No public pricing
- API-based answers may not match what users see
- Engine list less clearly documented
How we scored these tools
Each tool is scored 0–10 on the criteria below, using public evidence: independent benchmarks, vendor documentation and pricing pages, aggregate user ratings and reputable reviews. The overall score is the weighted average. Nobody pays to be listed. Read our full methodology.
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|
| Engine & market coverage | 20% | Which AI engines are tracked (ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok and others), on which plan, and in how many countries and languages. |
| Data quality & methodology | 25% | How prompts are run (consumer interface or API), how often, how many samples per prompt, and how clearly the vendor explains it. Citation and source data count here. |
| Actionability | 20% | Whether the tool tells you what to fix: source gaps, content recommendations, site audits, AI crawler logs and agents that draft content. |
| Integrations & reporting | 15% | API, MCP, Looker Studio or BI exports, Search Console and analytics links, client reporting, SSO. |
| Price per prompt & value | 20% | Published entry price, cost per tracked prompt per month, and hidden costs such as engine add-ons or per-domain fees. |
What is AEO or GEO, in plain English?
When someone asks ChatGPT "what is the best CRM for a small agency?", the answer names a few brands and often links to a few sources. AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) are two names for the same work: making sure your brand is one of those names and your pages are among those sources.
It overlaps with SEO but is not the same:
- Prompts replace keywords. People type long questions into AI, not two-word searches.
- Mentions and citations are different wins. A mention is your brand named in the answer. A citation is your page linked as a source. You can get one without the other.
- Other sites shape the answer. Reviews, comparison articles, Reddit threads and Wikipedia often decide who the AI recommends.
- There is no single rank. The answer changes from run to run, so you measure how often you appear, not a fixed position.
For the full SEO side (keywords, backlinks, content optimisers), see our best AI for SEO ranking.

Per-prompt cost is only half the story. Five engines at $0.50 beats one engine at $0.30, and a tool that repeats each prompt gives steadier numbers than one that runs it once.
How we scored
We weighted data quality and methodology at 25%, engine and market coverage, actionability, and price per prompt at 20% each, and integrations at 15%. Scores draw on vendor pricing pages, product documentation, funding announcements and independent studies of AI answer variance, all checked on 23 September 2026. G2 and similar review sites hold only small review counts for most of these young tools, so we did not lean on ratings. The overall score is the weighted average, rounded to one decimal. No vendor paid for placement.
Expert tips- Separate branded and unbranded prompts. "Is [your brand] good?" will always mention you, so only unbranded questions like "best payroll app for a 10-person company" show real visibility.
- Judge trends over at least four weeks, not daily swings. A SparkToro study found the same prompt returned the same brand list less than 1% of the time.
- Ask every vendor whether it captures the consumer app or calls the API. If it uses the API, spot-check 10 prompts by hand in the real ChatGPT or Perplexity app.
- Export the cited-sources report first. The domains AI cites for your prompts (review sites, Reddit, trade press) are your outreach list.
- Before paying for add-on engines, check your analytics referrals. If almost no visits come from Claude or Copilot, start with ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode and Perplexity.
Jargon explained
- AEO / GEO
- Answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation: two names for making your brand appear in AI-written answers.
- Prompt
- A question you ask an AI engine. Visibility tools track a fixed list of prompts, like keywords in SEO.
- Mention vs citation
- A mention is your brand named in the answer. A citation is a link to a page used as a source. They are tracked separately.
- Share of voice
- Your brand's mentions as a share of all brand mentions in the answers for your prompts.
- Query fan-out
- The extra web searches an AI runs in the background to build its answer. Seeing them shows which pages it read.
- AI Overviews / AI Mode
- Google's AI features: AI Overviews is the summary above normal results; AI Mode is a separate chat-style search tab.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI visibility tool?
Profound is the most complete for large brands. Semrush is best if you also need SEO data, and Peec AI is the best dedicated tracker for mid-sized teams. For small budgets, SE Visible and Otterly.AI are the best value.
How do I track my brand in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?
Use a tracker that lists both engines. SE Visible, Semrush, Ahrefs Brand Radar and Profound (Enterprise) cover AI Overviews and AI Mode. Otterly.AI includes AI Overviews and sells AI Mode as an add-on. Google Search Console now has Search Generative AI performance reports that show your impressions in AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI features in Discover. They show how often your pages appear, not which prompts triggered them or how rivals do, so a tracker still adds value. See our AEO guide.
What is the difference between AEO, GEO and AI visibility?
They describe the same goal. AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) are the work of getting your brand into AI answers. AI visibility is the measurement: how often those answers mention or cite you.
How many prompts should I track?
Start with 30 to 50 prompts that match real buying questions, spread across your main topics and a few competitor comparisons. Because answers vary run to run, fewer than about 20 prompts gives noisy results. Add prompts by topic, not by guessing branded phrases.
Can I check AI visibility for free?
Partly. Semrush has a free AI visibility checker, Profound offers a 7-day trial, and SE Visible, Peec AI and Otterly.AI have free trials. You can also ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini your key questions by hand, but single manual checks are unreliable because answers change.
Do AI visibility tools show real traffic?
Mostly no. They measure mentions and citations in sampled answers. For real visits, check referrals from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai and gemini.google.com in your analytics. Conductor, Profound and Otterly.AI also log AI crawler visits to your site.
How do I improve my AI visibility?
Look at which sources the AI cites for your prompts, then get covered there: comparison articles, review sites, forums and your own clear, factual pages. Make sure AI crawlers can read your site, keep product facts and prices current, and publish pages that answer buyer questions directly.
