Best AI Mind Map Generators

Xmind is the best all-round choice because it is a first-class mind map editor first and an AI tool second. You get custom themes, links and numbering, a Pitch mode that turns a map into slides, Gantt charts and exports to PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown and Office formats. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, and one subscription covers up to five computers and five mobile devices.

The AI is useful rather than flashy. Xmind AI can build a map from a text prompt (with a slower "deep thinking" mode), summarise long texts, files and links into a map, grow ideas from a branch, reorganise a messy map and break a project into tasks.

The catch is credits. Free and Pro include only 50 AI credits, so regular AI use means Premium at $8.25/month on yearly billing, which adds 500 credits a month and real-time collaboration. That is still cheaper than most rivals.

Pick it if you mind map often and want the best editor with AI help. Skip it if you mostly need to summarise videos; Mapify handles more input types.

Mapify is the tool to use when the source is long and you want the gist as a map. Give it a PDF, a document, a YouTube link, an audio recording, an image or a web page, and it pulls out the structure and key points as a branched map. You can then chat with the content to ask follow-up questions. For students and researchers facing a 60-minute lecture or a 40-page report, that is the fastest route to an overview in this ranking.

Pricing is reasonable. The free plan's 30 one-time credits cover roughly five documents and five videos, enough to test it properly. Basic is $5.99/month on yearly billing ($9.99 monthly) for 1,000 credits, and an Unlimited plan costs $17.99/month yearly. Credits depend on the AI model and the word count, and they do not roll over.

Mapify is weaker as an editor. Styling, layouts and team features are basic next to Xmind or Miro, so many people export the map to a dedicated app for finishing.

Pick it if you mostly summarise documents and videos. Skip it if you brainstorm from scratch with a team.

Whimsical is the nicest place to brainstorm a mind map with other people. Its AI Mind Maps feature takes a starting idea and automatically expands it into a fully branched map, which you then edit on the board. The same board can hold flowcharts, wireframes and docs, so a brainstorm can turn into a plan without switching apps.

The free plan is fine for a trial but tight for real work. You get 10 AI credits per member and 50 board objects a month, and exports carry a watermark. Pro costs $10 per editor a month on yearly billing and removes the object limits; extra AI credits are sold separately on every plan, so heavy AI users pay more.

The AI is good at broad brainstorming but does not summarise PDFs or videos into maps, so it is not a study tool.

Pick it if your team wants quick, clean visual brainstorming alongside flowcharts and wireframes. Skip it if you need to map long documents; use Mapify or Xmind.

GitMind, from Apowersoft, is the cheapest capable option here. Its AI can build a map from a one-line prompt, and it also converts documents, PDFs, images (using OCR, which reads text in pictures), audio, YouTube videos, web articles and Excel sheets into maps. That covers almost as many inputs as Mapify at a lower yearly price: $4.08/month billed yearly, or $9 month to month, for unlimited maps.

It runs nearly everywhere: web, Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad, Android and a Chrome extension. The free plan allows up to 10 mind maps or whiteboards, and AI features come with limited trials that vary by feature, plus credits you can earn or buy.

The trade-offs are polish and clarity. The editor is solid but less refined than Xmind's, and AI usage depends on a credit system that the pricing page does not spell out in detail, so heavy users should test how far the credits go before paying for a year.

Pick it if you want broad AI inputs and apps on every device for the lowest price. Skip it if you want a premium editor or clear AI limits up front.

MindMeister is a web and mobile mind map app built around easy sharing. Its AI, still labelled beta, lets you start a map from a prompt or an uploaded file and then edit and expand it with AI's help. Unusually, AI is on every plan, including Free. A new MCP connector (also beta) lets Claude create maps from a prompt, summarise existing maps or turn a conversation into a map.

Collaboration is where it shines. Every plan allows unlimited collaborators, maps can become presentations, and branches convert into tasks in MeisterTask, its sister project board. Pro adds Google Workspace and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint exports.

Prices are low: $3.50 per user a month on yearly billing for unlimited maps. The free plan's limit of 3 maps is the tightest here, though, so treat it as a trial.

The AI is less capable than Xmind's or Mapify's; it does not list video or audio inputs, and beta features can change.

Pick it if your team wants easy shared maps that turn into tasks. Skip it if AI summarising of videos or long documents is your main need.

Miro is an online whiteboard used by many companies, and its mind map tool now has AI built in. Describe a central idea and Miro AI generates a multi-branch map with related themes; select any branch and ask it to expand or suggest related ideas. Because the map sits on the same board as sticky notes, diagrams and tables, it fits naturally into workshops and planning sessions. Miro also says its Sidekicks and AI Workflows can turn a map into a strategy document or OKRs, pulling context from Slack and Jira.

Collaboration is the strongest here, with real-time co-editing on a shared board and links to tools such as Slack and Jira.

The limits are credits and cost. The free plan keeps only three boards editable and gives 10 AI credits a month for the whole team. Starter costs $8 per member a month on yearly billing with 25 AI credits each. As a pure mind map tool it is more expensive and less focused than Xmind or MindMeister.

Pick it if your team already works in Miro. Skip it if you want a personal mind map app or document summaries.

Taskade is an AI workspace where a mind map is one way of looking at a project. You can generate an outline or map with AI, then switch the same content between list, board and mind map views and turn branches into tasks, assign them and automate follow-ups. Taskade has a set of AI mind map generator templates for brainstorming, marketing and planning.

Its real focus in 2026 is building AI apps, agents and automations, and the pricing reflects that. The free plan gives 6,000 one-time credits for two users. Pro starts at $10/month for up to 10 users with 50,000 credits a month, which is good value for a small team using the whole workspace.

As a mind map tool it is limited. Because the map is a view of an outline, you get fewer layout and styling options than in Xmind or Whimsical, and it does not advertise PDF or video-to-map summaries.

Pick it if you want brainstorm maps that turn straight into tasks and AI workflows. Skip it if you need a polished, presentation-ready mind map.

Gemini Notebook, the new name for Google's NotebookLM, makes mind maps from the sources you put into a notebook: PDFs, Google Docs, slides, web pages or videos. Open a notebook, select the Mind Map chip in the chat, and it builds a map of the main topics across your sources. Because it only uses your material, the map reflects what your documents actually say, which makes it a strong free study and research tool.

It costs nothing to start. Google's help centre lists a limit of 10 mind maps a day on the standard plan, rising to 100 on Pro and up to 1,000 on the top Ultra tier. You can download the map or share the whole notebook.

It is not a mind map editor, though. Google's help page describes viewing, downloading and sharing, not editing or styling, and the mobile app does not support mind maps yet. Treat it as an overview generator and move the result into another tool if you need to rework it.

Pick it if you study or research from a pile of documents and want a free map of them. Skip it if you want to build or design a map yourself.

Ayoa is a mind mapping and task app. Its Ultimate plan combines AI-powered mind mapping with whiteboards, task boards, multiple views and integrations, so ideas can move from a map into a to-do list in one place.

Users like it: Ayoa scores 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra from 206 reviews. The free plan allows up to 10 mind maps but has no AI at all, and a 7-day trial unlocks Ultimate.

Pricing is the weak point for us. Ayoa's pricing page only loads prices in the browser, so we could not confirm a US dollar price; Capterra lists Ultimate from £10 per user a month. Yearly billing saves up to 20%. We also found few public details on what its AI does beyond generating and expanding maps, which is why it ranks below tools with clearer AI features.

Pick it if you want maps and tasks side by side and like its style after the trial. Skip it if you want AI on a free plan or transparent pricing.

ClickUp is a project management platform, and its Mind Maps view is built to turn ideas into work. You can diagram a campaign or workflow, turn any node into a task, colour-code nodes to match lists and let Re-Layout keep the tree tidy as it grows. For teams already in ClickUp, that link between brainstorm and task list is the main reason to use it.

AI costs extra. ClickUp Brain, its AI add-on, starts at $9 per user a month on top of your plan and includes 1,500 AI Super Credits a month; ClickUp says Brain helps generate structured plans from brainstorming sessions. The Everything AI bundle is $28 per user a month. For a team of ten, AI mind mapping therefore costs far more than Xmind or MindMeister.

As a mind map editor it is serviceable rather than strong, and ClickUp is a big app to learn if mind mapping is all you need.

Pick it if your projects already live in ClickUp and you want maps that become tasks. Skip it if you just want an AI mind map tool; a dedicated app is cheaper and simpler.
