Quick answer

Is there a free plan?

The free plan includes every core feature: the database, user logins, analytics and hosting, for up to 5 apps. The limit is usage. You get 5 message credits a day, capped at 25 a month, which is roughly 25 to 50 small changes at Base44's estimate of 0.5 to 1 credit each, and 100 integration credits for what your app does, such as about 100 standard emails or about 33 messages to an in-app AI agent. There is no custom domain. When you hit the monthly cap, building and integrations stop until the next month.

Hidden costs and catches
  • Two meters, not one. Message credits pay for building; integration credits pay for emails, uploads, AI calls, workflows and backend functions in your live app. You can run out of one while the other is full.
  • Your live app can stop working. When integration credits run out, actions that need them pause until your next reset, so emails stop sending and AI features stop answering.
  • No rollover and no listed top-ups. Unused credits expire at the end of each cycle. Base44's documented options when you run out are to upgrade or wait for the reset.
  • Key features start at Builder. GitHub sync, model choice, backend functions, deeper code scanning and app store files all need Builder, $40 a month yearly or $50 monthly, not the $16 Starter plan.
  • Premium AI costs more credits. An in-app AI call costs about 1 integration credit on the automatic model but about 15 on GPT-5.4, and AI video about 5 credits per second.
  • Third-party bills are separate. Stripe, SendGrid, OpenAI and other services you connect bill you directly, and store publishing needs your own paid Apple and Google developer accounts.

Is Base44 worth the money?Ranked #4 in our Best AI App Builders for Web and Mobile Apps

Starter at $16 a month (yearly) is the cheapest way to get a real app with logins and a database online, and the hard credit caps mean you never get a surprise bill. For a simple internal tool you build once and tweak occasionally, it is good value.

The value drops if you iterate a lot. 100 message credits can go in a few long sessions, unused credits vanish each month, and there are no listed top-ups. Many people will really need Builder at $40 (yearly) for GitHub sync, model choice and backend functions, which puts it above Lovable Pro at $21 a month billed yearly. Watch integration credits too if your app sends email or uses AI, because running out pauses those features for your users. For heavy daily building, Lovable's rollover credits or Replit's Free Mode usually go further.

Message credits vs integration credits

Message credits are spent when you work with the AI to build or change your app. Base44's rough guide:

Change Typical credits
Simple visual or text change about 0.5
Improving a small feature about 1
Adding a complex module about 2
Large or app-wide change about 3 to 4
Discuss-mode message about 0.3

Integration credits are spent when your app uses Base44's built-in services:

Action Typical credits
Send an email about 1 (2 from your own domain)
Upload a file or generate an image about 1
Standard AI call (automatic model) about 1
AI call on Gemini 3 Flash / GPT-5.4 about 5 / about 15
In-app agent message (automatic model) about 3
Generate video about 5 per second
10 workflow steps, or 100 backend function runs about 1

The exact cost is worked out after each action, so check Credit usage in your workspace settings for real numbers. Both balances are shared by everyone in the workspace and reset monthly on the day you subscribed.

Discounts: yearly, academic and referral

  • Yearly billing saves 20% on every paid plan. On Builder and above it also adds a free domain for one year and 25 credits to share with a friend.
  • Academic discount: students, teachers and staff with a recognised school email get 50% off Starter or Builder, for up to 12 months on monthly billing or the first year on annual billing. It is one-time and cannot be combined with promo codes.
  • Earning credits: Base44's referral programme gives your friend 30 credits at sign-up and you 30 when they publish an app, or 100 if they upgrade. Sharing your project on LinkedIn or X can earn 20 message credits once per account.

Which Base44 plan should you pick?

You are... Pick Cost (yearly billing)
Testing an idea Free $0
Building one or two personal or small business apps Starter $16/month
Building something a developer may take over, or a store app Builder $40/month
Running complex apps with heavy AI or email use Pro $80/month
Running your business on Base44 Elite $160/month
Rolling it out across a company Enterprise Custom

If you are unsure, start monthly on Starter for one month, check your Credit usage page, then switch to yearly on the right tier.

Money-saving tips from our editors
  1. Pay yearly once you know the tier you need: every paid plan is 20% cheaper, and Builder and above add a free domain for a year.
  2. Check your integration credit usage weekly if your app sends email or uses AI. Running out pauses those features for your users until the reset.
  3. Use your own API key for heavy AI features. Calls to outside services with your own key do not use integration credits.
  4. Students and teachers should verify a school email before buying: Starter or Builder at 50% off for up to a year.
  5. Do not buy Starter if you need GitHub sync or app store files; both start at Builder, so upgrading later wastes the first month.

Jargon explained

Message credits
Base44's allowance for building. Each prompt to the AI uses some, depending on how much work the change takes.
Integration credits
A separate Base44 allowance used when your app does something for its users, such as sending an email, uploading a file or calling an AI model.
Two-way GitHub sync
A link that copies every change between your Base44 app and a GitHub code repository, in both directions.
Native wrapper
A small phone app that shows your web app inside it. It can go in the app stores, but the app itself is still a website.
Backend functions
Custom code that runs on the server rather than in the user's browser, for tasks like processing payments or calling other services.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Base44 cost?

Free costs nothing. Starter is $16 a month billed yearly or $20 monthly, Builder $40 or $50, Pro $80 or $100, and Elite $160 or $200. Enterprise is custom. Prices checked 25 September 2026.

What are Base44 message credits and integration credits?

Message credits pay for building: each prompt to the AI uses some, about 0.5 for a small change and 2 or more for bigger features. Integration credits pay for what your app does for its users, such as about 1 per email, file upload or standard AI call.

Do Base44 credits roll over?

No. Paid plans reset both balances monthly on your subscription date, and unused credits expire. On the free plan, the 5-credit daily allowance resets at midnight, within a cap of 25 credits a month.

What happens when I run out of Base44 credits?

Actions that need credits pause until your next reset. You cannot send more build messages, and your app's integrations, such as email and AI features, stop working. You can upgrade to a higher plan at any time to continue.

Which Base44 plan includes GitHub?

Builder and above. Base44's docs say two-way GitHub sync requires the Builder plan ($40 a month yearly, $50 monthly) or higher. Starter does not include it.

Is Base44 cheaper than Lovable?

At entry level, yes: Starter is $16 a month yearly against $21 for Lovable Pro. But Lovable includes Git sync on every plan and rolls unused credits over, while Base44 needs Builder ($40) for GitHub. See Lovable pricing.
