Grok has a free plan, and paid plans run from $10 to $300 a month. The four personal tiers are SuperGrok Lite ($10), SuperGrok ($30), SuperGrok Plus ($100) and SuperGrok Heavy ($300), all listed at those prices in Apple's App Store. Paying yearly costs ten months' price ($100, $300, $1,000 or $3,000), which saves about 17%.
Most people should start with SuperGrok Lite at $10. It unlocks Expert mode, where Grok 4.7 does most of its best work, for half the price of ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro. SuperGrok at $30 adds Grok Bot and longer video, but it costs $10 more than those rivals' main plans. Plus and Heavy are for people who make a lot of video or run long agent jobs.
All paid plans draw on one weekly usage pool shared across chat, Imagine, voice and the Grok Build coding tool, and you can buy extra credits from $5 when it runs out. Teams pay $30 per user per month for Grok Business. Developers pay separately for the API, where Grok 4.7 costs $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.
Prices checked 25 September 2026 on Grok's official pricing page. Prices are in US dollars unless stated and can change at any time.

Is there a free plan?
Yes. Grok is free on grok.com, iOS, Android and inside X, with chat on the current Grok model, voice mode and limited web and X search. Since 19 August 2026 the free plan can also use Grok Build to make simple apps and websites. SpaceXAI does not publish how many messages you get, and free chat and voice limits are counted separately from the paid weekly pool.
Do not count on free image and video creation. After the deepfake scandal, xAI (as SpaceXAI was then called) limited image generation on X to paying users on 9 January 2026 and restricted Grok Imagine on the app and website to paid plans on 19 March 2026. Free access has changed several times since. If Imagine is why you want Grok, budget for at least SuperGrok Lite.
What you will actually pay
Worked examples using the published prices above.
| Scenario | Cost | How we got there |
|---|---|---|
| Budget user on SuperGrok Lite for a year | $100/year | Yearly plan. Monthly: $10 × 12 = $120. |
| Regular user on SuperGrok for a year | $300/year | Yearly plan. Monthly: $30 × 12 = $360, compared with $20 × 12 = $240 for ChatGPT Plus. |
| Team of 5 on Grok Business | $1,800/year | 5 seats × $30 × 12 months. |
| Power user on SuperGrok Heavy | $3,000/year | Yearly plan. Monthly: $300 × 12 = $3,600. |
Grok pricing compared with rivals
| Tool | Paid plans from | Free plan | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grok | $10/month (SuperGrok Lite) | Yes, with unpublished limits | The tool on this page |
| ChatGPT | $8/month (Go, US) | Yes, with limits | Plus is $20, $10 less than SuperGrok. Pro starts at $100. |
| Claude | $17/month billed yearly (Pro); $20 monthly | Yes: chat, web search, file creation | No image or video creation. Max plans start at $100. |
| Gemini | $4.99/month (Google AI Plus, US) | Yes: Flash model, Deep Research, image generation, Gemini Live | AI Pro is $19.99 with 5 TB of storage; Ultra from $99.99. |
| Perplexity | $20/month or $200/year (Pro) | Yes | Cited web answers; Max is $200 a month. |
| Microsoft Copilot | $9.99/month (Microsoft 365 Personal) | Yes: chat, images, file uploads | Paid plans include Word, Excel and 1 TB of storage. |
| Meta AI | Free (Meta One Core $7.99/month) | Yes | Chat stays free; Meta One adds more image and video creation. |
SuperGrok Lite is good value; the $30 plan is harder to justify. At $10 a month, Lite gives you Expert mode on Grok 4.7, which scores well on independent tests, for half the price of ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro. If you want live news from X and a strong model cheaply, it is one of the best deals in AI.
- SuperGrok ($30) makes sense only if you will use Grok Bot or 720p video often. For plain chat, $20 rivals give you as much.
- Plus ($100) is for people who make a lot of 1080p video or code with Grok Build every day.
- Heavy ($300) is for a small group running very long agent jobs. For comparison, Google's top AI Ultra tier costs $199.99.
- Grok Business ($30 a seat) costs $10 more per person than Claude Team billed yearly ($20).
Price is not the only cost. Grok has the weakest safety record of the major chatbots, so it is a poor choice for families, schools or regulated work. Read our Grok review and ChatGPT vs Grok before you pay.
Grok API pricing
The API lets developers use Grok models in their own apps. It is billed per token (a token is roughly three-quarters of a word), separately from any SuperGrok plan.
| Model | Input | Cached input | Output | Context window |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grok 4.7 | $2.00 | $0.50 | $6.00 | 500K tokens |
| Grok 4.3 | $1.25 | $0.20 | $2.50 | 1M tokens |
| Grok Build 0.1 (coding) | $1.00 | $0.20 | $2.00 | 256K tokens |
Prices per 1 million tokens for prompts under 200K tokens, from SpaceXAI's developer docs on 25 September 2026.
What changes the bill:
- Long prompts: at 200K tokens or more, every rate doubles (Grok 4.7 becomes $4 in and $12 out).
- Priority processing costs 2x standard rates. Grok 4.7 Fast, offered in Cursor and Grok Build, also costs 2x.
- Batch API: 20% off, but only on Grok 4.3 and the Grok 4.20 models, not Grok 4.7.
- Tools: web search and code execution cost $5 per 1,000 calls; X search costs $5 per 1,000 posts.
- Media: images cost $0.02 to $0.05 each; video costs $0.05 to $0.08 per second.
Worked example: 1,000 requests, each with 2,000 input tokens and 500 output tokens, is 2 million input and 0.5 million output tokens. On Grok 4.7 that costs (2 × $2) + (0.5 × $6) = $7. On Grok 4.3 it costs (2 × $1.25) + (0.5 × $2.50) = $3.75.
How Grok's weekly usage pool works
In June 2026 SpaceXAI replaced separate daily limits with one weekly pool for paid users. According to its FAQ:
- One pool for everything. You can spend your whole allowance on chat, Imagine, voice or Grok Build, or split it.
- Reset time varies. Each account resets on its own schedule, shown in the Usage tab in Settings.
- When it runs out, paid features pause until the reset. You keep the free plan's chat and voice limits, which are counted separately.
- Top-ups: Extra Usage Credits start at $5, are spent only after the weekly pool is gone, and expire after one year. They cost more per action than your plan's built-in usage.
Upgrading to a bigger plan raises the weekly pool. SpaceXAI does not publish the size of any pool.
- Start on SuperGrok Lite at $10 for a month. Only move to $30 if you hit the weekly pool or want Grok Bot and 720p video.
- Turn off auto top-up, or set a low monthly cap, before buying Extra Usage Credits. Credits cost more per task than your plan and expire after a year.
- Pay yearly only after a month on the monthly plan. It saves about 17%, but SpaceXAI changed its tiers and limits several times in 2026.
- If you already pay for X Premium+, check what Grok access it gives you before subscribing to SuperGrok as well.
- For API work, use Grok 4.3 at $1.25 in and $2.50 out for routine jobs and keep prompts under 200K tokens; past that, every rate doubles.
Jargon explained

- One shared allowance that all of Grok's paid features draw from each week. When it runs out, paid features pause until it resets.

- Token
- A small chunk of text, roughly three-quarters of a word. API prices are quoted per million tokens.
- Grok Bot
- AI helpers that keep working in the background on a cloud computer, using apps and websites for you. Included from SuperGrok up.
