Character.AI Pricing (2026): c.ai+, Lite and Free Plan

Quick answer

Character.AI is free, and messaging stays unlimited on the free plan. Two paid plans lift the limits: (c.ai) lite at $4.99 a month (or $2.49 a week) in the US, and c.ai+ at $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year. Lite cuts ads and gives a daily allowance of the premium chat styles. c.ai+ removes ads completely and makes the premium styles unlimited.

Most casual users can stay on the free plan. Choose lite if banner ads and the 15-pin memory limit annoy you, and c.ai+ if you chat every day and want the best models and memory tools. Prices vary by country, and Charms (the in-app currency) cost extra.

Prices checked 25 September 2026 on Character.AI's official pricing page. Prices are in US dollars unless stated and can change at any time.

Is there a free plan?

The free plan costs nothing, and Character.AI says messaging is unlimited for everyone. You can chat with any character, make your own, use the PipSqueak 2 chat styles, pin 15 memories, use a basic Lorebook and talk to characters in voice calls. The trade-offs are ads (banner and full-screen), slow mode when servers are busy and daily limits on some features. On any plan, open-ended chat requires you to be 18 or over.

Hidden costs and catches
  • Charms, the in-app currency for premium extras such as Comics, are sold separately. The App Store lists packs from $0.99 to $49.99.
  • Weekly lite billing costs far more over a year: 52 x $2.49 = $129.48, against 12 x $4.99 = $59.88 on monthly billing.
  • (c.ai) lite still shows full-screen ads and caps the premium chat styles each day.
  • Prices are set by country, and the price shown at checkout is the one you pay.
  • App Store and Google Play subscriptions are cancelled and refunded through Apple or Google, not Character.AI.

Is Character.AI worth the money?Ranked #2 in our Best AI Roleplay Chatbots

For most people, the free plan is enough. Unlimited messaging is rare among roleplay apps, and the free plan already covers the character library, voice calls and basic memory. (c.ai) lite at $4.99 a month is the best-value upgrade if banner ads and the 15-pin memory limit are what bother you. c.ai+ at $9.99 a month, or $94.99 a year, is fair for daily users who want no ads, unlimited premium chat styles and the full memory tools, and it costs half as much as Claude Pro.

Paying does not remove age checks or content filters, so if those are why you are unhappy, a subscription will not fix it. Compare other apps on our Character.AI alternatives page.

Where to subscribe and how to cancel

You can subscribe in the iPhone or Android app, or on the web, where Stripe processes payments. In-app subscriptions are managed, cancelled and refunded through Apple or Google under their own policies. For web purchases, Character.AI asks you to send a support request and choose Payments and purchases. Either way, your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.

Money-saving tips from our editors
  1. Pay yearly for c.ai+ if you will use it most months: $94.99 a year is $24.89 less than 12 monthly payments.
  2. Avoid the weekly lite option unless you only want it for a week or two. Over a year it costs more than twice the monthly price.
  3. Test lite first. If its daily premium allowance covers your normal sessions, you save $5 a month compared with c.ai+.
  4. Buy Charms only after you subscribe to c.ai+, which adds 20% bonus Charms to each pack.
  5. Check the price for your own country at checkout. Character.AI sets prices by region, so they may be lower than the US prices shown here.

Jargon explained

Age assurance
Checks that estimate or confirm how old a user is, for example with an AI model, a selfie or an ID document.
