Gamma is an AI presentation maker: type a prompt, paste notes or import a PDF or PowerPoint file, and it builds a full, designed deck with text, layouts and images. It also makes documents, simple websites, social posts and graphics in the same editor. Instead of fixed slides, Gamma uses flexible "cards" that grow with their content and look best when shared as a web link.

Gamma ranks #1 in our best AI for presentations, level on score with Claude for PowerPoint, and it gave the best first-draft design quality we tested. Its founder told TechCrunch in November 2025 that Gamma had 70 million users and $100 million in annual recurring revenue. Its weak spots are PowerPoint export and a credit system that heavy image users burn through.

8.5/10
Our verdictRanked #1 of 11 in our Best AI for Presentations

Gamma is worth it if you want a good-looking first draft fast and you present from the browser or share decks as links. The free plan's 400 credits are enough to judge it properly, and Plus at $9 a month (billed yearly) is cheap. Skip it, or pair it with another tool, if your final file must be a pixel-perfect PowerPoint built on a strict company template.

Key features, explained

Generate from a prompt, notes or a file

Describe your topic, paste an outline or import a PDF or PowerPoint file, and Gamma drafts a full deck with a title, sections, layouts and images. You choose the number of cards, the theme and the image style. The Free plan creates up to 10 slides per prompt and Plus up to 100. Everything stays editable afterwards, so you can rewrite text or swap layouts card by card.

Gamma Agent

The Agent works like a chat partner for your deck. Tell it what you are making; it asks a few questions, shows you a plan, then does the research, writing, design and images from start to finish. Afterwards you can ask for changes to one section without rebuilding the rest, or ask for a new look and pick from a few style directions it offers, which it applies in place.

Effort picker

Each generation has an effort level. Lite is the fastest and uses the fewest credits. Standard, the default on most plans, balances quality and speed. Max uses Gamma's strongest models, checks more facts and uses better image models, but takes longer and costs more credits. Gamma notes that the same level can cost different amounts on different projects, depending on size and complexity.

AI images and credits

Gamma can create an image for each card using models from several companies; its FAQ lists Flux, Recraft, Ideogram, Luma, Leonardo, Playground and OpenAI among them. Cost depends on the model tier. In Gamma's API docs, standard image models use 2 to 15 credits per image, advanced 20 to 33, premium 34 to 75 and ultra 30 to 125. Text costs 1 to 3 credits per card.

Export and sharing

Every plan, including Free, can present from Gamma, share a link, or export to PDF, PPTX, PNG and Google Slides. Links work best, because Gamma's flexible cards do not map exactly onto fixed slides; in our testing and in app-store reviews, fonts and spacing can shift in PowerPoint. Pro adds detailed analytics, such as how long viewers spent on each card, plus advanced sharing controls.

Websites, API and connectors

Gamma can publish multi-page websites: Pro allows up to 10 custom domains, and Ultra and Business up to 100. Pro and higher plans also get API keys, so tools like Zapier, Make or n8n can generate decks automatically. The ChatGPT and Claude connectors work on every plan, including Free, and use credits in the same way as the app.

What users say about Gamma

Mobile users rate Gamma very highly: 4.9 out of 5 on Google Play from about 29,000 reviews and 4.8 on Apple's App Store from 951 ratings. Common praise is speed, attractive layouts and how little design skill it needs. The complaints cluster around three things. First, exports: users say text comes out small or inconsistent in downloaded PowerPoint files and has to be fixed slide by slide. Second, control: some find that outputs look alike and struggle to force exact formats such as A4 pages. Third, billing: Gamma scores 1.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 124 reviews, mostly from people unhappy about renewals without reminders, the short refund window and support that feels automated.

Users praise

  • Very fast first drafts from a short prompt
  • Attractive, consistent layouts without design skills
  • Easy to turn documents and notes into slides
  • Free plan is generous enough to try it properly

Users complain about

  • Fonts and sizes need fixing after PowerPoint export
  • Decks can look similar; exact formats are hard to force
  • Renewals without reminders and a strict refund policy
  • Support replies feel automated (Trustpilot)

Pricing at a glance

Gamma's cheapest paid plan is Plus at $9 per seat a month, billed yearly ($108 a year). Pro is $18 a month ($216 a year) and Ultra is $90 a month ($1,080 a year). These are Gamma's US-dollar prices on yearly billing; monthly billing costs more, and Gamma says yearly saves up to 28%. The Free plan gives 400 credits once, at sign-up, and they do not refill. For companies, Business is $40 per member a month billed yearly, and Enterprise is priced by sales. Gamma shows local-currency prices in some countries, so your checkout price may differ.

Most people should start on Free, then move to Plus to remove Gamma branding and get 1,000 credits a month. Choose Pro if you need custom branding, analytics, custom domains or the API.

How Gamma credits work

Almost every AI action in Gamma uses credits: generating a deck, rewriting with AI, creating images or running the Agent. The cost depends on the number of cards, the effort level and, above all, the image model. Gamma's developer docs give these rough guides:

  • A 10-card deck with 5 images on a basic image model: about 20 to 60 credits.
  • A 20-card document with 15 premium images: about 320 to 1,070 credits.
  • 30 social posts with 30 ultra-model images: about 930 to 3,900 credits.

Free accounts get 400 credits once. Paid plans get a monthly allowance (1,000 on Plus, 4,000 on Pro, 20,000 on Ultra), and unused credits roll over up to twice the monthly amount. Paid users can buy extra credits. Full details are on our Gamma pricing page.

Privacy and security

Gamma says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant. It sends your prompts and content to outside AI models, including Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI) and Gemini (Google), plus several image models. The Business plan adds single sign-on (SSO) and a workspace-wide opt-out from AI training that members cannot switch back on. Enterprise adds SCIM user provisioning, audit logs with SIEM integration and admin controls over public links, sharing and API keys. On lower plans, check your own AI training settings before uploading client material.

Who should skip Gamma

Skip Gamma if your company requires decks built on its own PowerPoint slide master, because exports need clean-up. Claude for PowerPoint or Microsoft 365 Copilot work inside PowerPoint and respect your template. Skip it too if you want to place every element by hand: Canva gives more manual control. Compare all the options in our Gamma alternatives.

Expert tips
  1. Use the Lite effort level for outlines and early drafts, then switch to Standard or Max only for the version you will present.
  2. Paste your own outline or document instead of a one-line prompt. Gamma keeps your structure and you spend fewer credits regenerating.
  3. If the deck must end up in PowerPoint, choose a simple theme with standard fonts and export a test copy early, before you polish.
  4. Upload your own images before generating when you have them. They cost nothing, while AI images on advanced to ultra models can cost 20 to 125 credits each.
  5. Share a Gamma link instead of a file when you can. The layout stays exactly as designed and, on Pro, you can see which cards people read.

Jargon explained

Card
Gamma's version of a slide. Cards can grow to fit their content, which is why they do not always match fixed PowerPoint slides.
Credits
Gamma's AI currency. Generating decks, rewriting text and creating images each use some credits.
Slide master
The PowerPoint file that sets a company's fonts, colours and layouts for every slide.
Effort level
A per-generation setting (Lite, Standard or Max) that trades speed and credit use against quality.
SSO (single sign-on)
Logging in to a tool with your company account, managed by IT, instead of a separate password.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gamma free?

Yes. The Free plan gives 400 AI credits once, at sign-up, and lets you create up to 10 slides per prompt, import PDF and PPTX files and export to PDF, PPTX, PNG and Google Slides. Output carries Gamma branding. The credits do not refill, but you can earn 200 more per friend who joins.

Can Gamma export to PowerPoint?

Yes, on every plan. Because Gamma uses flexible cards rather than fixed slides, fonts, text sizes and spacing can shift in the PPTX file, so plan a clean-up pass for important decks.

Is Gamma better than Canva for presentations?

For fast AI first drafts, yes: Gamma ranks above Canva in our best AI for presentations. Canva gives more manual design control, a bigger template and image library, and suits people who want to place every element themselves.

What AI models does Gamma use?

Gamma's FAQ lists Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT and DALL-E (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), Flux, Recraft, Playground, Ideogram, Luma and Leonardo. Higher plans unlock more advanced text, image and video models.

Can I use Gamma inside ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. Gamma's ChatGPT and Claude connectors work on all plans, including Free, and use your Gamma credits. Direct API keys need Pro or higher.
