AI work platform, monday CRM, monday dev, monday service

monday.com is a work platform where teams track projects, requests and sales on visual boards. Each board is a table of items (rows) and columns such as status, owner and due date, and you can flip it into a Kanban board, timeline, Gantt chart, calendar or dashboard. The same platform powers separate products for sales (monday CRM), software teams (monday dev) and service desks (monday service).

Its AI runs on one pool of AI credits. Sidekick is an assistant that answers questions about your boards and takes actions, monday agents handle recurring jobs such as sorting requests, vibe builds small apps from a prompt, and AI blocks summarise, categorise or extract data inside columns. monday.com is one of the top picks in our best AI project management ranking because non-technical teams learn it fast, and monday CRM also appears in our best AI CRM ranking. The catch is cost planning: seats come in fixed buckets, and since May 2026 new customers must buy an AI credit bundle with their seats.

8.2/10
Our verdictRanked #2 of 8 in our Best AI Project Management Tools

monday.com is worth it for marketing, operations, sales and HR teams that want a tool everyone can learn in a day, with AI that runs inside the boards they already use. It is less good for a team of one or two paying for features (the minimum paid purchase is 3 seats), for software teams that need deep sprint tracking, or for anyone who wants a fixed AI bill: agents and Sidekick use a variable number of credits per task. If you already run projects on monday.com, monday CRM is a sensible way to put sales on the same platform.

Best for

  • Non-technical teams that need a tool they can learn in a day
  • Marketing, operations and HR teams running requests and campaigns on boards
  • Companies that want projects and sales (monday CRM) on one platform
  • Teams that want to build small internal apps from a prompt (monday vibe)

Skip it if

  • Solo users who need paid features: the smallest paid bucket is 3 seats
  • Software teams that need deep sprint, bug and release tracking
  • Buyers who want a predictable AI bill with no metering

What we like

  • Very easy to learn, with 200+ templates
  • Sidekick, agents, vibe and AI blocks all run on one credit pool
  • Unlimited free viewers on paid plans
  • CRM, dev and service products share the same platform
  • Customer data is not used to train AI models, monday.com says

Watch out for

  • Seats sold in buckets (3, 5, 10, 15 and up), so 6 people pay for 10
  • Credit use by agents and Sidekick varies by task and is hard to predict
  • Timeline, Gantt and guests need Standard; time tracking needs Pro
  • Automation and integration actions capped at 250 a month on Standard
  • Trustpilot reviewers report upsells and slow support

Key features, explained

Boards, views and dashboards

Work lives on boards: each row is an item, such as a task, client or request, and columns hold status, owner, dates and numbers. You can view a board as a table, Kanban board or form on every plan. Standard adds timeline, Gantt and calendar views, and Pro adds chart views, time tracking and advanced columns for dependencies and calculations. Dashboards pull widgets from several boards. The Free plan is limited to 3 boards and 200 items.

monday sidekick

Sidekick is monday.com's AI assistant. It reads the boards you give it access to, answers questions such as what is blocked this week, and can take actions like updating items or drafting documents. Each message uses credits based on how complex it is: roughly 10 to 30 for a simple request and 150 or more for a very complex one, according to monday.com's help centre.

monday agents

Agents are AI workers you build from a prompt, with no code. You give each one instructions, board access, tools and an AI model, and it runs jobs such as lead scoring, ticket triage, risk checks or meeting summaries. monday.com estimates a simple agent task at about 10 to 50 credits and a complex one at 150 to 250 or more, and one run can include several tasks. Basic has only limited agent access.

monday vibe

Vibe builds small custom apps, such as a leave tracker or an OKR dashboard, from plain-language prompts. You can pick the model: monday.com lists Gemini Flash at about 10 to 20 credits per message, Claude Sonnet (the default) at about 30 to 50, and Claude Opus at 50 to 500. Publishing a live app needs a paid app bucket, and apps that use AI keep spending credits each time they run.

AI blocks, workflows and Notetaker

AI blocks add a step such as summarise, categorise, extract, translate or detect sentiment to a column or automation, at 8 credits per action. AI workflows chain these steps with actions like assigning owners; Standard allows 3 active workflows, Pro 20 and Enterprise 250. AI Notetaker, available from Standard, records meetings and writes summaries and action items, using 120 credits per meeting hour.

Automations, integrations and MCP

No-code automations and integrations with tools like Gmail, Outlook and Slack are capped by plan: 250 actions a month each on Standard, 25,000 on Pro and up to 250,000 on Enterprise. monday.com also runs an MCP server that lets outside assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot read and update your boards. monday.com says MCP connections do not use AI credits, though normal API limits apply.

monday CRM

monday CRM is a separate product for sales teams, built on the same boards. It tracks leads, contacts, deals and quotes, logs emails and calls in one timeline, and adds sales agents: an outreach caller that phones and qualifies leads (150 credits per successful call of up to 5 minutes) and a lead agent that works through new leads for you (10 credits per lead). Pro adds mass emails and sequences.

What users say about monday.com

monday.com's users like the product more than the company's billing. On Capterra the work platform scores 4.6 out of 5 from 6,117 reviews, and the iPhone app holds 4.8 from 47,992 ratings. Reviewers praise how quickly teams adopt it, the visual boards and the no-code automations, and many find the AI assistant useful for summaries and updates, though some call its output generic. Common complaints are the seat buckets, which force teams to pay for unused seats, advanced features locked to higher plans, and workspaces that get cluttered at scale. Trustpilot is far harsher at 2.1 out of 5 from 3,433 reviews: people there describe constant upsells for AI and automations, slow or chatbot-only support and, after recent updates, AI prompts and a notetaker they found intrusive.

Users praise

  • Intuitive, visual boards that whole teams adopt quickly
  • Flexible boards, columns and views for almost any workflow
  • No-code automations that cut repetitive work
  • AI summaries and updates that save admin time

Users complain about

  • Seat buckets force teams to pay for unused seats
  • Useful features and more automations locked to higher plans
  • AI credits run out faster than expected on complex workflows
  • Slow, chatbot-first support and frequent upsells (Trustpilot)

How monday AI credits work

Every monday AI feature on the work platform draws from one monthly pool of credits. monday.com's own estimates:

Feature Credits used
AI blocks 8 per action (repeat actions on the same item within 24 hours count once)
AI Notetaker 120 per meeting hour
Sidekick message about 10 to 30 (simple) up to 150+ (very complex)
Agent task about 10 to 50 (simple) up to 250+ (very complex)
vibe message about 10 to 20 (Gemini Flash), 30 to 50 (Claude Sonnet), 50 to 500 (Claude Opus)

Paid plans include 1,000 (Basic), 2,000 (Standard) or 3,000 (Pro) credits a month, and you can buy a bigger bucket without adding seats. Admins see usage by feature in AI governance, with alerts at 80% and 100%. Some AI features, such as AI in docs, summarise and rephrase, and MCP connections, do not use credits. See our monday.com pricing page for costs.

Privacy and admin controls

monday.com says customer data is not used to train AI models, that its AI providers work under zero data retention commitments, and that its contracts bar them from using your data for anything but the request. It encrypts data at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.3, the company says.

Admins can watch and limit AI credit use in the AI governance area. Enterprise adds AI permissions by account role, multi-level permissions, enterprise security and governance, and HIPAA compliance is listed on monday CRM Ultimate and monday service Enterprise.

What changed in 2026

  • 6 May: new work platform customers started buying AI credits together with seats (1,000, 2,000 or 3,000 a month minimum by plan). Existing customers keep their old terms unless they switch.
  • 8 June: monday agents started consuming AI credits.
  • July: monday.com said it would cut about 20% of its workforce, roughly 620 jobs, as it reorganises around its AI work platform.

Who should skip monday.com

Skip it if you are one or two people who need paid features (the smallest paid bucket is 3 seats), if you are a software team that lives in sprints and bugs (Jira or Linear fit better), or if you want deeper goals and portfolio planning, where Asana is stronger. If you want an all-in-one app with docs and chat on cheaper seats, look at ClickUp. See our monday.com alternatives.

Expert tips
  1. Use the 14-day Pro trial to measure AI: run your real agents and Sidekick questions, then check credit use per feature in AI governance before picking a credit bucket.
  2. Add read-only stakeholders as viewers, not members. Viewers are free and unlimited from Basic upwards.
  3. Choose Gemini Flash in vibe for small tweaks and switch to Claude Opus only for complex builds; monday.com lists Opus at up to 500 credits per message.
  4. Build AI blocks on parent items where you can. Subitems are counted separately, so the same action on 10 subitems costs 10 times the credits.
  5. Connect Claude or ChatGPT through monday.com's MCP server for ad hoc questions about your boards; monday.com says MCP does not use AI credits.
