Platforms
Web, iOS, Android, plus an app inside ChatGPT

Adobe Express is Adobe's quick design app for people who are not trained designers. You pick a template, drop in photos and text, resize it for each social channel and publish or schedule it, all in a browser or on your phone. It covers social posts, flyers, short videos, presentations, simple web pages and PDF edits, and it opens Photoshop and Illustrator files.

Its AI is Adobe Firefly, used for text to image, generative fill, text effects and generated templates. Adobe says its own Firefly models are trained only on licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and on public-domain material, which is the main reason businesses pick Express over rivals. Adobe Express is one of the top picks in our best AI graphic design tools ranking, close behind Canva. Our Canva vs Adobe Express comparison gives Canva the edge on templates and AI design tools, and Express the edge on price, AI safety and Adobe app links.

8.6/10
Our verdictRanked #2 of 7 in our Best AI Graphic Design Tools

Adobe Express is worth it for small businesses, marketers and creators who want Canva-style design with AI they can use commercially with fewer worries, or who already work with Photoshop, Illustrator or Adobe Stock. Premium at US$9.99 a month is cheaper than Canva Pro and includes 200M+ stock assets and the full Adobe Fonts library. Its limits are a smaller template library than Canva's (519,000+ premium templates) and only 250 generative credits a month, so heavy AI users should look at Firefly Pro instead.

Key features, explained

Templates, stock and fonts

The free plan includes 100,000+ static and video templates, 1M+ Adobe Stock photos, videos, music tracks and design elements, and 4,000+ Adobe Fonts. Premium unlocks every premium template (Adobe lists 519,000+), 200M+ Adobe Stock assets and the full Adobe Fonts collection of 30,000+ fonts. That stock and font library is larger than most rivals offer, though Canva has many more ready-made layouts to start from.

Firefly generative AI

Express uses Adobe Firefly to generate images, text effects and templates from a prompt, and to insert or remove objects in a photo (generative fill). Free users get a limited number of daily generations, while Premium and Teams get 250 generative credits a month per user. Most standard features, such as one text-to-image generation, use 1 credit. Credits reset each month and do not roll over.

AI Assistant (beta)

Announced at Adobe MAX in October 2025, the AI Assistant lets you change a design by describing what you want: rewrite copy, swap colour schemes, restyle elements, animate or resize. Adobe said it uses Firefly plus Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash for advanced photo edits. In 2026 it gained prompts to fix a page's layout, change font pairings and apply a saved brand. It is still a limited, desktop-only beta for paid users.

Video, animation and social scheduling

Express includes a drag-and-drop video editor with captions (added in April 2026), slip edits and physics-based animations. Premium adds video background removal and advanced animation. The Content Scheduler plans and publishes posts to 1 account per social network on Free and 3 on Premium, and Adobe says you can publish ads directly to Amazon, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn. One-click Resize, which reformats a design for other channels, needs Premium.

PDFs and presentations

Express doubles as a light document tool. The free plan allows 10 PDF Quick Actions a month (edit, combine, organise), and Premium makes them unlimited. Generate Presentations, added in March 2026, turns a document into a slide deck using Acrobat AI; free users get 5 lifetime uses. Since May 2026 you can export presentations straight to Google Slides, or save PowerPoint files to cloud storage.

Brand kits and Adobe app links

Premium includes brand kits with your logos, colours and fonts, and Teams adds template locking, sharing restrictions and company ownership of assets. Express opens Photoshop and Illustrator files and syncs Creative Cloud Libraries, so designers can hand off approved assets for marketers to adapt. Enterprise can train custom Firefly models on brand assets and connect to Adobe Experience Manager.

Adobe Express in ChatGPT

Since 10 December 2025, Adobe Express has been available as an app inside ChatGPT, free to use with an Adobe sign-in. You describe an invitation or social post in the chat, pick from Express templates and edit the text and images there, then open the design in the full Express editor for more work. Adobe launched Photoshop and Acrobat apps for ChatGPT on the same day.

What users say about Adobe Express

Most reviewers find Adobe Express quick to learn and good value. It holds 4.6 out of 5 on Capterra from 1,243 reviews, 4.8 on Apple's App Store from 368,213 ratings and 4.6 on Google Play. Reviewers like the clean interface, the template and stock library, one-click background removal and multi-format resizing, and people already on Creative Cloud value the links to Photoshop and Illustrator. The complaints are consistent: slow loading, lag and occasional crashes on larger projects, too little control for advanced design work, features locked behind Premium, and a smaller asset choice than Canva. Several Capterra reviewers also say the AI still needs refinement, and some report difficulty cancelling subscriptions on the website.

Users praise

  • Easy for beginners, teachers and non-designers

  • Fast background removal and resizing

Pricing at a glance

Adobe Express Premium costs US$9.99 a month on Adobe's US website, billed monthly with no annual commitment, and Adobe's US App Store listing also sells it for US$99.99 a year. Free costs nothing and is a real plan, not a trial. Teams costs US$4.99 per licence a month in the first year, then US$7.99, on an annual subscription with a 2-seat minimum. Firefly Pro at US$19.99 a month includes Express Premium plus 4,000 generative credits and Photoshop on the web and mobile. Enterprise and Higher Education are sold by Adobe's sales team, and K-12 schools get Express free.

These are US prices on 25 September 2026; Adobe shows local prices in other countries. Most individuals should start on Free, move to Premium for premium templates, stock and one-click Resize, and choose Firefly Pro only if they need lots of AI.

Commercial safety, rights and privacy

Adobe's pitch rests on training data. It says its Firefly models are trained on licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and on public-domain content whose copyright has expired, and that it does not train and has never trained Firefly on user content. You own what you make, Adobe says.

You can generally use AI output commercially, with one exception: if Adobe marks a beta feature as personal use only, its output cannot be used commercially. Legal cover (IP indemnification) for Firefly images is offered only on select Enterprise plans. Adobe also helped found the Content Authenticity Initiative, whose Content Credentials label how a file was made. What changed recently

  • October 2025: AI Assistant (beta) announced at Adobe MAX, plus lockable templates and direct ad publishing.
  • 10 December 2025: Adobe Express launched as an app inside ChatGPT.
  • March 2026: Generate Presentations, Copy and Paste Style and a new edit mode.
  • April 2026: captions inside the video editor and slip edits.
  • May 2026: export to Google Slides and PowerPoint export to cloud storage.
  • June 2026: HEIC photo import and better table handling in PDF import.

Who should skip Adobe Express

Skip it if you want the biggest template library and the most AI design tools in one app: Canva wins both in our comparison. Skip it too if AI images or video are the whole job, because Adobe Firefly Pro gives 4,000 credits a month and partner models (and includes Express Premium). Logo and icon designers who need real vector files should look at Recraft, and merch sellers at Kittl. See our Adobe Express alternatives.

Expert tips
  1. Set up a brand kit before you generate anything, so Generate Template and the AI Assistant start with your fonts, colours and logo.
  2. Use the free plan's daily generations for experiments and save Premium's 250 monthly credits for final images. Credits do not roll over.
  3. Finish one master design, then run one-click Resize for every channel and check each version for text that spills off the edge.
  4. If you mainly want more AI, compare Firefly Pro (US$19.99 with Express Premium and 4,000 credits) before you stack separate plans.
  5. Check AI images for lookalike logos, artwork or trademarks before using them in paid ads, even with Firefly.
