Writing & ContentBest AI Copywriting Tools
Also known as: AI slogan generator
Copywriting is short writing that has to make someone act: an ad headline, a landing-page hero, a product description, a promo email. AI is now very good at first drafts of this kind of text. The hard parts are keeping the words on-brand, getting facts right about your product, and knowing which version will actually convert.
The tools split into two groups. General chat assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) write the best raw copy for the lowest price, but you supply the brand rules yourself. Marketing platforms (Jasper, Anyword, Writer, Copy.ai, Hypotenuse AI) cost more but store your brand voice, product facts and audiences, and add team workflows, approvals and bulk generation. We ranked eight tools on copy quality, brand control, marketing workflow, value and ease of use, using public pricing as of 23 September 2026.
Quick answerClaude writes the most natural, least generic marketing copy and is our top pick at $20/month. ChatGPT is a near-tie and the best all-rounder, with a cheaper $8/month Go tier. If you are a marketing team that needs stored brand voices, approvals and campaign workflows, Jasper ($59/seat/month billed yearly) is the most complete platform. Choose Anyword if you want a predicted performance score for each ad variant before you spend money testing it.

Expert reviews
Claude is the best writer here for copy that must not sound like AI. Give it a real brief (audience, offer, proof points, tone, word limits) and it returns headlines and page sections that are specific and varied, with fewer stock phrases than most rivals. It is also good at critiquing its own drafts: ask it to argue why each headline would fail and it will tighten them.
A Project stores your brand guide, product facts and examples of copy that worked, so each new chat starts on-brand. What it lacks is marketing plumbing. There are no built-in ad templates, no predicted performance scores and no direct publishing to ad platforms. You copy and paste.
Pick it if you or a small team write copy yourselves and care most about quality. Skip it if you need approvals, bulk catalogue work or campaign reporting inside the tool.
What we like
- Most natural, least generic copy in our comparison
- Projects keep brand rules and product facts across chats
- Strong at critique and rewriting to a word count
- Pro at $20/month covers heavy use for most solo marketers
Watch out for
- No ad templates, scoring or ad-platform integrations
- Free plan has tight usage windows
- Can overwrite with too many options unless you set limits
ChatGPT is the most practical single tool for a small business doing its own marketing. It writes solid ad and landing-page copy, follows structured briefs well and can produce a matching ad image in the same chat with GPT Image 2.5, which helps you see a whole ad before you build it. Custom GPTs and Projects let you save brand instructions and reuse them.
Its default copy leans a little more on familiar marketing phrasing than Claude's, so give it banned words and examples of your voice. The $8 Go tier is enough for light copy work, and Plus at $20 adds higher limits and the newest reasoning models.
Pick it if you want one affordable assistant for copy, images and research. Skip it if you need a governed platform where a team's output is checked against brand rules automatically.
What we like
- Copy and ad visuals in one place
- Go tier at $8/month is a cheap way to lift limits
- Custom GPTs save reusable copy briefs
- Huge ecosystem of guides and prompts
Watch out for
- Default copy can sound familiar without a style guide
- Free plan shows ads and caps images
- No built-in performance prediction
Jasper is built for marketing teams, not individuals. Its core idea is "Jasper IQ": you store Brand Voices, Knowledge (product facts, positioning) and Audiences, and every agent and template draws on them. That makes copy from a ten-person team sound like one company. The Canvas workspace and marketing agents cover ads, landing pages, emails and repurposing, and the Business plan adds Jasper Grid for running one brief across hundreds of rows.
The writing itself is good but not better than Claude or ChatGPT, because Jasper runs on third-party models underneath. You are paying for the brand system and workflow. At $59 per seat per month billed yearly, that adds up fast, and the useful team features sit on the custom-priced Business plan.
Pick it if several people write for one brand and consistency is the problem. Skip it if you are a solo marketer; a $20 chat assistant with a good prompt gets you most of the way.
What we like
- Best brand-voice and knowledge system here
- Marketing agents for ads, emails, pages and repurposing
- Browser extension works inside Google Docs and CMS tools
- Highly rated by users (4.8/5 on Capterra)
Watch out for
- Expensive per seat; no free plan
- Pro limits you to 2 Brand Voices
- Best features need a 12-month Business contract
Gemini is the easy choice if your marketing lives in Google Workspace. It drafts copy directly in Docs and Gmail, can pull facts from files in your Drive, and Gems let you save a brand-voice brief you reuse. Its copy is competent and clear, though a little plainer than Claude's, and it is quick to produce many variants.
The low-cost AI Plus plan ($4.99/month in the US) makes it the cheapest paid option here. It has no marketing-specific features such as ad templates or scoring.
Pick it if your team works in Google Docs and wants copy help without another tool. Skip it if copy quality is your top concern or you need stored multi-brand controls.
What we like
- Works inside Docs, Gmail and Drive
- Cheapest paid plan in this list
- Fast at producing many variants
- 1M-token context reads long product docs
Watch out for
- Copy is plainer and needs more editing for punch
- Few brand-governance features
- Plan names and features change often
Anyword's selling point is data, not prose. Each headline, ad or email subject line it writes comes with a predicted performance score, and on higher plans it learns from your own past campaign results ("performance data rows"). For a paid-social or email marketer, that helps you pick which three of twenty variants are worth testing.
Treat the score as a vendor model's estimate, not a guarantee; real A/B tests still decide. The copy itself is solid and short-form focused. Word generation is unlimited on every plan, but predictions are capped (50 a month on Starter), and the plan that learns from your data is custom-priced.
Pick it if you run many ad variants and want a first filter before testing. Skip it if you mostly write long landing pages or brand storytelling.
What we like
- Predicted performance score on each variant
- Unlimited words on every plan
- Good templates for ads, emails and social
- Chrome extension scores copy in other tools
Watch out for
- Scores are a vendor prediction, not proof
- Prediction caps on lower plans
- Learning from your own data needs a custom plan
Writer is the governance pick. It checks every draft against your style guide, terminology list and claims rules, and flags words your legal team has banned. Its Knowledge Graph connects to company documents so copy draws on approved facts. For banks, healthcare firms and large B2B companies, that control matters more than flair.
The copy is clean and accurate but more conservative than what Claude or ChatGPT write. Setup takes real effort: you have to load your guidelines and connect sources before it shines. Starter is limited to five users, and most of the platform's value (unlimited Playbooks, departmental brand profiles, approvals) is on Enterprise.
Pick it if your copy must pass brand and compliance review at scale. Skip it if you are a small team that just wants good drafts fast.
What we like
- Strongest style-guide and terminology enforcement
- Knowledge Graph grounds copy in company documents
- Enterprise security and compliance options
- Works in Word, Google Docs and the browser
Watch out for
- More setup than any other tool here
- Starter capped at 5 users; best features on Enterprise
- Copy is safe rather than punchy
Copy.ai started as a template-based ad and caption writer and has turned into a go-to-market (GTM) automation platform. Fullcast, a revenue-operations software company, bought it in October 2025. Its strength now is Workflows: chains that take a lead list or product brief and produce personalised emails, account research or product copy in bulk.
For pure copywriting, the $24/month Chat plan is decent value because five people can share it and pick between OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models. But that is essentially a multi-model chat app, and the workflow engine starts at $1,000 a month. The quality of the copy depends on the underlying model you choose.
Pick it if you are a sales or GTM team that wants copy generation wired into revenue workflows. Skip it if you just want to write ads; a direct Claude or ChatGPT plan is simpler.
What we like
- Five seats on the cheapest plan
- Choice of OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models
- Powerful bulk Workflows for sales and marketing ops
Watch out for
- Huge price jump from $24 to $1,000/month for Workflows
- Focus has moved from copywriting to sales operations
- No free plan listed on its pricing page
Hypotenuse AI is a specialist for product copy. You upload a spreadsheet of products with their attributes, set your brand voice, and it writes titles, descriptions, meta tags and category pages for the whole catalogue in 40+ languages. The Enterprise plan also fills in missing product attributes and tags items, which helps search on your own store.
For one product at a time, a chat assistant is just as good and cheaper. The value is in bulk and consistency. The catch is that Hypotenuse no longer publishes prices; you start a free trial and talk to sales.
Pick it if you manage a catalogue of hundreds or thousands of SKUs. Skip it if you sell a handful of products or need ad and landing-page copy.
What we like
- Built for bulk product descriptions from spreadsheets
- 40+ languages for international stores
- Attribute enrichment and tagging on Enterprise
Watch out for
- No public pricing
- Overkill for small shops
- Less useful for ads and landing pages
How we scored these tools
Each tool is scored 0–10 on the criteria below, using public evidence: independent benchmarks, vendor documentation and pricing pages, aggregate user ratings and reputable reviews. The overall score is the weighted average. Nobody pays to be listed. Read our full methodology.
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|
| Copy quality | 30% | Does it write specific, persuasive, human-sounding copy with clear benefits and calls to action, or generic filler? |
| Brand voice & control | 20% | Can you store tone rules, product facts and audiences so every output stays on-brand without re-explaining? |
| Marketing workflow | 20% | Templates for ads and pages, bulk generation, performance insight, integrations and team approval features. |
| Value | 20% | What a solo marketer or small team pays per month for real, unrestricted use. |
| Ease of use | 10% | How quickly a non-expert gets usable copy. |
How to brief an AI copywriter
Output quality depends mostly on the brief. Include:
- Audience: who they are and what they already believe.
- Offer: the product, price and the one thing you want them to do.
- Proof: numbers, reviews, awards you can actually back up.
- Voice: three adjectives plus two examples of your own copy.
- Limits: character counts for each placement (for example, 30 characters for a Google Ads headline).
- Banned words: clichés you never want to see.
Ask for ten options with different angles (price, speed, fear of missing out, social proof) rather than ten versions of one idea.
Legal and accuracy risks
AI tools invent plausible details: a "30-day guarantee" you do not offer, a statistic with no source, a comparison with a competitor you cannot prove. In the US, the FTC says advertisers must have evidence for objective claims before they publish them, and it makes no exception for text an AI wrote. Check every claim against real product facts before publishing, and keep a list of approved claims in your brand knowledge (Jasper Knowledge, Writer Knowledge Graph or a Claude Project) so the tool reuses them.
Expert tips- Paste your character limits into the prompt and ask the tool to show the count next to each line. Most AI copy overshoots ad-platform limits unless told.
- Save a one-page brand brief (audience, voice, proof points, banned words) as a Claude Project file or a Custom GPT. You will never re-explain your brand again.
- Ask for ten headlines using ten different angles, then ask the same tool to rank them for your audience and explain the weakest. The critique step improves the survivors.
- Use Anyword's predicted score or your own judgment only to shortlist. Let a real A/B test with at least a few hundred clicks per variant pick the winner.
- Before you buy a $59/seat platform, run the same brief through Claude or ChatGPT. If the only problem is consistency across writers, then a platform is worth it.
Jargon explained
- Brand voice
- The consistent tone and word choices a company uses, such as friendly and plain, or formal and technical. Marketing AI tools let you save it so every draft matches.
- A/B test
- Showing two versions of an ad or page to similar audiences to see which one gets more clicks or sales.
- Landing page
- A single web page built for one campaign, where people land after clicking an ad. Its only job is to get one action, like a sign-up.
- CTA (call to action)
- The words that tell the reader what to do next, such as "Start free trial" or "Shop the sale".
- GTM (go-to-market)
- Everything a company does to sell a product: marketing, sales outreach and customer onboarding.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI for copywriting?
For most people, Claude writes the most natural and specific copy, with ChatGPT close behind and cheaper to start. Marketing teams that need shared brand voices and approvals should look at Jasper; regulated companies at Writer.
Is Jasper better than ChatGPT for copywriting?
Not for raw writing quality. Jasper uses third-party models underneath. It is better at keeping a whole team on-brand, with stored Brand Voices, Knowledge and Audiences and marketing workflows. A solo writer usually gets more value from ChatGPT or Claude.
Is there a free AI copywriting tool?
Yes. The free plans of ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all write good ad and product copy with usage limits. Google Ads also generates ad headlines and descriptions for free inside Performance Max campaigns. See our best free AI writing tools.
Can AI write product descriptions for my online store?
Yes. For a few products, paste the specs into any chat assistant. For hundreds of SKUs, bulk tools like Hypotenuse AI or Jasper Grid (Business plan) process a spreadsheet at once. Always check sizes, materials and claims for accuracy.
Does Anyword's performance score really predict results?
It is Anyword's own model estimating how copy will perform, based on marketing data. It can help you shortlist variants, but it is a vendor claim, not a guarantee. Real A/B tests remain the only reliable proof.
What happened to Copy.ai?
Fullcast, a revenue-operations software company, acquired Copy.ai on 15 October 2025. The product now focuses on sales and go-to-market workflows, though a $24/month (annual) Chat plan remains for general copywriting.
