Ideogram Pricing (2026): Plans, Credits and Free Tier

Quick answer

Ideogram's cheapest paid plan is Plus at $20 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly ($180). Pro costs $60 a month or $42 billed yearly ($504), and Team is $30 per user a month or $20 billed yearly, with a two-user minimum. Plus includes 1,000 priority credits a month, Pro 3,500 and Team 1,500 per user, and every paid plan adds unlimited slow generations. The free plan gives eligible accounts weekly slow credits. Prices are in US dollars, exclude tax and come from Ideogram's pricing page as of September 2026.

Plus suits most freelancers and small businesses. Choose Pro for batch generation from a spreadsheet and three and a half times the priority credits. The API is billed separately, per image.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, with limits. Free accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft get weekly slow credits, and Ideogram says the amount may vary. Slow credits run in a queue whose wait depends on demand, and you can have only one generation running or queued at a time. You can use Ideogram 4.0, and reference and edit tools run on slow credits. Every free image is public in the community feed, and there is no private generation, quality export or batch generation. You may still use your images commercially. It is enough to try a few poster or logo ideas each week, not to run client work.

Hidden costs and catches
  • Priority credits expire monthly. Unused subscription credits vanish at the end of each billing cycle. Top-up credits carry over but expire a year after purchase.
  • AI editing always uses priority credits. On paid plans, Edit with AI and Image Reference never fall back to the slow queue, so heavy editing drains credits fast.
  • Buying on iPhone costs more. The App Store lists Plus Monthly at $28.99 and Pro Monthly at $85.99, against $20 and $60 on the web.
  • No refunds. Subscription payments are non-refundable, and you must cancel at least 5 days before renewal to avoid the next charge.
  • Team seats add up. Team has a two-user minimum, and anyone who accepts an invite becomes a billed seat.
  • The API is billed separately. A subscription includes no API credits, and API spending does not count toward your plan.

ScenarioCostHow we got there
Freelancer on Plus, billed yearly$180/year$15 x 12 = $180, against $240 on monthly billing ($20 x 12), a saving of $60. At 3 credits per Ideogram 4.0 Balanced image, 1,000 credits cover about 333 priority images a month, plus unlimited slow ones.
Designer on Pro, billed monthly$720/year$60 x 12 = $720. Paying yearly would cost $504 ($42 x 12), saving $216.
Marketing team of 4 on Team, billed yearly$960/year4 users x $20 x 12 = $960, against $1,440 on monthly billing (4 x $30 x 12). The team gets 6,000 priority credits a month (4 x 1,500).
Developer generating 2,000 images through the API$1202,000 x $0.06 (Ideogram 4.0 Balanced) = $120. In Turbo it would be 2,000 x $0.03 = $60.

Is Ideogram worth the money?Ranked #7 in our Best AI Image Generator

Plus at $15 a month billed yearly is good value if you make text-heavy graphics every week. Unlimited slow generations mean you never hit a hard stop, and 1,000 priority credits cover a few hundred fast Ideogram 4.0 images plus some editing. Pay monthly first: there are no refunds, and credits do not roll over.

Pro is only worth it for batch work or if you burn through priority credits on edits. For occasional use, the free plan and ChatGPT's free image allowance may be enough, and for developers the API at $0.03 to $0.10 per image is often cheaper than a subscription.

How Ideogram credits work

Ideogram has two kinds of credits.

  • Priority credits come with paid plans and top-ups. They generate straight away and are needed for AI editing and image references.
  • Slow credits are unlimited on paid plans and weekly on the free plan. They wait in a queue whose length depends on demand.

When priority credits run out, eligible generations drop to the slow queue automatically; you cannot choose the queue yourself. Cost depends on the model, render speed, number of images and tool. Ideogram's live price list, as of September 2026, charges these credits per image:

Ideogram 4.0 render speed Credits per image
Turbo 1.5
Balanced 3
Quality 5

Top-ups start at $4 and the pack size grows on higher plans. They are used after your monthly credits and expire a year after purchase.

API pricing

The Ideogram API is prepaid and billed separately from subscriptions. You add credit in the API dashboard ($20, $50, $100 or a custom amount from $1, with a $300 balance cap) or turn on auto-recharge.

Endpoint Price per image
Ideogram 4.0 Turbo $0.03
Ideogram 4.0 Balanced $0.06
Ideogram 4.0 Quality $0.10
Ideogram 3.0 (Turbo to Quality) $0.03 to $0.09
Remove background $0.01

Prices are from Ideogram's API price list as of September 2026. The default rate limit is 10 requests in flight; volume and enterprise pricing is available on request.

Money-saving tips from our editors
  1. Subscribe on the web rather than in the iPhone app. Plus Monthly costs $20 on the web against $28.99 through the App Store.
  2. Start on monthly billing, since there are no refunds, then switch to yearly to save up to 33% once you know your plan fits.
  3. Queue non-urgent batches in the slow queue after your priority credits run out. Paid plans get unlimited slow generations at no extra cost.
  4. Draft in Turbo (1.5 credits) and upgrade only final images to Quality (5 credits).
  5. Buy top-ups instead of upgrading if you run short only now and then. They carry over month to month for up to a year.

Jargon explained

Priority credits
Ideogram's paid credits. They generate images straight away and are needed for AI editing. Monthly ones expire at the end of each billing cycle.
Slow credits
Credits that run in a slower queue. They are unlimited on paid plans and given weekly to eligible free accounts.
JSON prompt
A prompt written as a structured list of elements, each with its own position, text and colours, so the model follows an exact layout.
Open weights
The trained model files are published so you can download and run the model yourself. Ideogram 4's licence allows non-commercial use only.
Raster vs vector
A raster image is made of pixels and blurs when enlarged. A vector (SVG) image is made of shapes and stays sharp at any size, which is why logos use it.
